Although it I wanted to focus on physical exercise this month, my mind has been all over the place this week and I knew a mediation was the way to go. I opened my Peloton App and found a 10 Minute Fitness Goals Meditation from yesterday and knew it was exactly what I needed today.
Is meditation an exercise?
This age old debate is one that even I am on the fence about. While it isn’t a physical exercise, it is a mental exercise. I find it extremely important to quiet the mind. According to Headspace, Meditation isn’t about becoming a different person, it’s about trying to observe your thoughts through awareness and getting a healthy perspective on everything that is running through your head. There are a lot of apps such as Headspace and Calm, that offer guided meditation for you!
How was the 10 Minute Fitness Goals Meditation?
For all of my Peloton friends, this ten minute meditation was with Aditi Shah. I love a good ten minute mediation because I struggle to focus for longer than ten minutes or totally fall asleep – whoops! I loved that Aditi started the class by saying that we should find a place of feeling grounded and peaceful but also alert and alive. The goal of this meditation is to use your mindset to create a why to move you towards you goals.
As I mentioned, I typically stick with shorter meditations so that I can stay engaged. I also tend to do them before bed so I can sleep peacefully after. Today I decided to do this one in the morning. I definitely feel refreshed from the soothing music and steadiness of Aditi’s voice. I enjoyed that this one focused on a fitness goal and helped us connect deeper to why we want to achieve it. I am a VERY goal oriented person so I found it much easier to stay engaged with this meditation.
Would you do it again?
Overall Rating: Yes! I liked this meditation because it was something I could relate better too. Meditating is a challenge for me, but I am trying to be better about it. I recommend looking for shorter meditations if you are a beginner. If you are like me and you have been trying it for a while, try to find one with a theme that you can relate to. It will help you stay much more engaged! My favorite part – it was a nice change from my usual workout routine!
If you’re looking for a meditation, the Peloton app does offer two weeks free!
