SHEIN TIPS

Happy Friday! We are officially over halfway through the month of April and 30 different outfits! If you are anything like me(always looking for a great deal on clothes), those Facebook or Instagram ads for Lulus and SHEIN may have caught your eye. I am one of the few people who has actually purchased clothes from there and have some SHEIN tips to share! But first, clothes for today…

What did you wear today?

If you recall from last Friday, Fridays are for foam rollers, other than that – no working out! This is one of the rare days that I don’t actually wear workout clothing all day long! This morning I did drag myself out of bed (maybe later than planned) and yes, I did struggle to find an outfit which caused me to me 5 minutes late to class. I chose a strappy PINK sports bra that isn’t great for anything other than lounging and to look cute. Threw on an Isabody Tee from my health and wellness company and another pair of Old Navy Leggings. This is the only pair of Old Navy leggings that has ever let me down. I specifically bought them for the pockets on the thigh and when I wore them to run in the first time, my phone was way too big for the pocket! So disappointed but I had already ripped the tags off unfortunately. At least they are still wearable for other workouts!

Workout Essentials foam roller, sports bra, t shirt, and leggings
This is my FAVORITE foam roller for digging into all of my muscles and aiding in muscles recovery!

After the foam rolling class I was so excited to wear something cute today! I pulled out an off the shoulder waffle-knit sweater. I know what you are thinking, how is this casual comfort for working-from-home? To be honest, it’s the best way to be lazy but still feel a little dressed. Obviously no jeans were involved on this very casual Friday, but the top complimented the leggings well! I snagged this top from SHEIN a couple of years ago!

This top is from SHEIN and is cute for any casual day! Paired with a pair of cotton leggings from Victoria's Secret.

OK so lets talk SHEIN TIPS…

A roommate of mine turned me on to SHEIN when we lived together in 2018 and I have been hooked ever since! They have SO MANY OPTIONS in every category, color, and print you could ever imagine. If you’ve never been to their website, prepare to be stuck there for the next hour just searching through everything. Check out these SHEIN tips before you buy.

  1. Everything comes from China – the reason that this company can sell you clothing SO CHEAPLY is because so many companies produce their clothing in China. SHEIN then uses their patterns (what you use to make clothing) to replicate the same style in similar fabrics to re-sell as their own brand. I know this sounds terrible, BUT if you recall, I am a fashion designer between the hours of 9 and 5pm which means I already know how many brand (that you wear every day) do this to each other. It’s all about who can produce the best output for the lowest price. Don’t be fooled my friends, Walmart isn’t the only bully on thee block. Everyone wan’t everything cheaper to the point where they will find where you make your goods and make it cheaper- that’s what we call “STORE” brand my friends. OK enough on my fashion industry exposé over here. The point is that this company is making their own private label (store brand if you will) so there aren’t all of these other licensing fees and selling/shipping fees involved. It’s just going directly to you and therefor they are able to sell it all very cheap.
  2. READ ALL OF THE REVIEWS – I repeat READ ALL OF THE REVIEWS. Part of why you can spend so much time on thee website planning what you are going to order is because you MUST read all of the reviews. Each product, and sometimes even color way, has their own set of reviews. What I love the most about it is that most people enter their height, weight, cup-size, and post photos with their reviews. It makes it SO MUCH EASIER to see if the actual article of clothing matches the picture the model is wearing, anreven better, how it might actually look on you! I know this process is EXTREMELY TEDIOUS, but I am telling you, you are setting yourself up for success here.
  3. FREE SHIPPING & RETURNS – Following up to reading all of the reviews, you are safe knowing that you do get free shipping when you spend over $49 and there are ALWAYS coupon codes that pop up as soon as you hit the homepage. No matter what you do, be sure to buy a lot and hit the free shipping minimum. I always buy A LOT at one time and truthfully end up returning half of it because it doesn’t fit quite right. There are free returns on your first (an hopefully only) return package from an order. This means that you try them all on and send back the ones you don’t love all together in one package. It is SO EASY. Refunds go straight to your credit card or your account for next time – the choice is yours.
  4. Buy 1 item in 2 sizes – Because of the shipping minimum and having the items come from China, sometimes you need something for an event and there isn’t time to risk it. Save yourself the hassle and buy two sizes the first time to avoid having to do another SHEIN haul.
  5. Items that are NOT returnable – BATHING SUITS AND LINGERIE are the biggest ones. I read ALL OF THE REVIEWS on any bathing suit that I am going to buy so that I don’t get stuck with something that I am not ever going to wear. So far everything has fit the way I expected it to swimsuit wise except for one. The good news is that if you aren’t in love with a suit, it was probably only $12 which is cheaper than a cocktail at an NYC bar (this is how I rationalize all of my spending). I’ve only ever had one issue with a one-piece bathing suit that I ordered, it came with the front of the top half sewn to the back of the bottom half! They were willing to refund me and allow meet return the item, however I wanted it for a beach weekend and there wasn’t enough time to make a new one! Thankfully, I work in fashion and we have a seamstress at work who took it apart and sewed it back together correctly for me. It looked fabulous in the end! Keep in mind that shoes and jewelry are also non-returnable.

Hope these SHEIN Tips help! Let me know if you’ve tried SHEIN before and what your favorite pieces are from there!

xoxo
