Peloton Bike Bootcamp

Although I have already done a Peloton workout this month, a friend challenged me to a Bike Bootcamp which I have NEVER done before. Clipping in and out of the bike is stressful enough for me, now I have to do it mid-workout! I would not have agreed to this one if I had known that I had to jump off the bike halfway through! I like simple.

I feel like everyone has a Peloton, what’s the deal?

Before we get into the review, I want to chat about Peloton as a whole. Peloton was founded in 2012 with the intent to make cycling simple and flexible with any schedule. Five guys worked together and dove relentlessly into developing Peloton: the software, the community, and the bike itself. Peloton really started taking off in 2015 and has topped over 3 million homes worldwide as of fall 2020. The idea was that working out at home in your basement is lonely and it’s hard to motivate yourself to go harder than the bare minimum. Working out with Peloton provides a community of people cheering you on and an instructor looking to in the eye to motivate you to keep going. They offer live classes and pre-recorded classes. You can ALWAYS see who is riding along with you and offer a high-five. In the live classes, the instructors actually call you out for your achievements and birthday rides. These guys strive to bring the boutique studio feel right into your home everyday. Boy did they get it right!

How was the Bike Bootcamp?

Let me start by reiterating how much I don’t LOVE cycling unlike all the other Peloton lovers out there. Ben wanted a Peloton and that is why we have a very expensive bike instead of a kitchen table. Since it stares at me every day I might as well make use of it.

I thought I had seen Ben do bootcamps before with weights (maybe I was wrong or those classes have a different name)? However, I definitely have never seen him workout out on the floor mid bike session. As I mentioned, I was a little shocked when she mentioned clipping out after a bike circuit to workout on the mat but I was already clipped in and committed to back out. Thankfully I really love the instructor for this 30 minute Bike Bootcamp, Tunde Oyeneyin. She is calm and she is fierce at all the same time. For her, I will clip in and out of the bike mid workout.

A little Peloton Bike Bootcamp while catching the sunset tonight.

This Bike Bootcamp was also my FIRST live class. I was pretty shocked to find that the suggested cadence and resistance doesn’t just show up like it does in the pre-recorded previous classes. I was also a little bummed that the resistance don’t automatically change during these live classes(talk about a true first world problem). It was a little hard to following along to be honest without the numbers staring me in the face, I had to really pay attention. The first bike circuit was a little rough but I survived. Thankfully Tunde left a lot of time between getting off the bike and starting the strength portion, phew! There were two floor circuits that were a little easier in my opinion, definitely could have done more reps or just added on some extra weight. After about 10 minutes, we were back on the bike to finish out the last bike circuit. The final one KILLED ME! I wasn’t ready for that grand finale, that’s for sure.

Should I try this?

Overall Rating: The cycling continually kicks my butt! I have truthfully never been a fan of cycling, however, I have ALWAYS been big into classes. I am a firm believer that when you show up to a class, you will SHOW UP because you don’t want to let anyone down. When you only show up for yourself, it’s much harder get motivated. Today I SHOWED UP because my friend showed up too. Tunde, the instructor, showed up to our live class ready to workout with all of us tuning in.

If you don’t have a peloton bike or tread you can ALWAYS try out their app! You have access to all of the same classes from cycling, and tread running, to yoga, barre, strength training, outdoor running, and meditation sessions. There is an instructor for everyone’s style, music for your personal preference, and fun themed classes to make your workouts different and enjoyable.

If you haven’t tried Peloton, I highly recommend giving it a shot – even if you aren’t into cycling like me! They currently charge $12.99/month (way cheaper than ANY BOUTIQUE gym I have ever stepped for in). You can also check out the Peloton Website for a free 30 Day Trial of the App!

Let me know who your favorite instructors are or what classes you love the most!
