Day 17 – TikTok Workout

Day 3 of Trendy Workouts is here! I was getting a lot of recommendations for TikTok workouts so I thought I would give it a shot. A simple 1 minute routine couldn’t be that hard, right? I have seen a few and they look fun! My friend sent me a link and I threw it on my calendar for tonight, mistake number 1.

Which one did you choose?

If you’ve been home with limited things to do since last March, you too have probably turned to social media and Netflix for some good old entertainment. I just dowloaded TikTok at the start of the year to see what the rage is all about. I’m still not sure that I 100% get it, but being able to enjoy other people’s content has been pretty entertaining to say the least.

I noticed that you can do a duet feature with TikTok. This means that if you see a video you like, you can do your version of their video right next to theirs! I was excited to try it out! The only bummer is that you can’t upload your own video next to theirs, you have to legit record them side by side. For a workout video, this means no batching clips together- it’s one shot does it all!

So what was Mistake #1?

Mistake #1 my friends, is that I did not open the TikTok video prior to 6pm tonight when I was ready to do said workout. I pulled open my phone and it was a SEXY WORKOUT. To be fair, my friend did note that in her text, I just must have glanced over that part. There was some twerking involved, a lot of booty shaking, and some high kicks. I am all for social media and sharing with everyone, BUT it’s not typically my style to throw up a sexy video or picture. I was pretty close to backing out, but I am here for this challenge to get OUT of my comfort zone. No growth comes from staying in your comfort zone!

And Mistake #2?

I deeply underestimated how much of a trial and error process making this video and completing the 1 MINUTE workout would be. I did a couple of workouts before my TikTok tonight because I figured this would be a quick one. I think Ben rode the Peloton for a half hour while I spent the ENTIRE TIME trying to master this workout! It was really like a dance routine that I had to pick up the moves and correct counts for each move. On top of all of that, your girl most definitely CANNOT twerk.

I watched a couple of times before attempting to try this dance. I recorded it countless times trying to get my timing to match up exactly with the girl in the video. Let me tell you, not so easy. On a personal note, I noticed that my form was quite sloppy when it came to the direct hit of each move. It’s one thing as a dancer/gymnast that I ALWAYS notice. I was too lazy to go for another round though – good enough to share my booty shaking workout with the rest of the world.

Would you do it again?

Overall Rating: Definitely would do some duet TikToks again! Even though I was hesitant, I am SO GLAD my friend had me do a sexy workout to get out of my comfort zone tonight.  I have been loving a lot of the workouts choreographed to music.  Who knows, that may even become my new favorite hobby. What I’ve learned about myself through this challenge is that I forgot how much I love to dance. It’s been a year since I’ve thrown out some dance moves at a bar. Sadly that means I haven’t danced anywhere else either. This has been a great challenge for the soul.
