Closet Organization Tips and Tricks

Today is officially the last day of April! It’s crazy how quickly this month has flown! I was SO excited to finally do all of my laundry and actually put my clothing away. The only unfortunate part of laundry day is that I have to actually address all of the other clothes that I didn’t wear this month. That’s a lot of thinking for a Friday! As I was folding and putting away all of my laundry today, I thought it would be fun to share some closet organization tips and tricks that I have ALWAYS lived my life by. Reflecting on my life over the past few years, I realize that I definitely have some strong OCD qualities!

But First- What did you wear today?

My foam rolling class was this morning. I always roll out of bed so last minute that today I ended up wasting time trying to figure out what exactly I haven’t worn before. I opted for a t-shirt with a tag still on it so I knew it wasn’t previously worn 😂 Anyone else leave their tags on their clothing until they are ready tower it?? It’s very eye opening when you own something for over a year that still has tags on it – like wow I really didn’t need to buy that…

After my foam rolling class I decided to start the laundry process. This is what 30 days of laundry looks like. It’s not so fun.

Laundry Day
This laundry seriously almost touches the railing on our wall...so much laundry!

I hopped into the shower and actually tried to look semi-nice today since I had a work meeting at 4. Who schedules a work meeting 4pm on a Friday?!? Anyways, It’s Friday so I was keeping casual no matter what. I actually put on a pair of jeans (wild I know) and matched it back to an Old Navy top that I am pretty sure I picked up on their clearance rack two years ago for $1.99. You really can find some great steals there! I usually match this outfit back to my white canvas slip-ons or metallic sandals, but I didn’t even leave my house today so no shoes necessary.

Closet Organization Tips and Tricks

After washing 30 days worth of clothing (3 very full loads of laundry), I thought it would be fun to share what my drawers looked like before I put my clothes back in and after. To be honest, I was SHOCKED at how much clothing I still hadn’t worn! I definitely did some more donating before I put anything back in the drawers. If you haven’t done your spring cleaning yet, let me tell you- it feels SO GOOD to clear out the closet. Peep this before and after:

How-To-Organize-Your-Closet

Now how to Organize your Closet

1. Organize by Style! Every category should be in a section together. For example, my hanging clothes go tanks, short leave tops, long sleeve tops, sweatshirts, and dresses. Dresses go casual tank, short sleeve, long sleeve, and then dressier/formal dresses. You can break every category down into smaller categories!

Tanks and then short sleeve shirts in this section of the closet. Note the organized color flow happening here!

2. Organize by Color – Once you have everything split up into categories, now you can organize them by color! I do this with all of my tops. All of my shirts run white to red thru navy to black.

3. Organize by Compression. One of my favorite ways to organize my sports bras is by compression (since I wear them almost every day, I want to know what’s what). I stand my sports bras so it is easy to see them all when you open the drawer. Lightest compression in the front for lounging all the way to strongest compression in the back (best for running)!

4. Stand up the Clothing in Your Drawers – Hear me out on this one. I thought it was weird until I tried it. It is SO HELPFUL to have all of your clothing standing up because you can actually see everything in your drawer when you open it. See above before and after and note the difference!

Drawer Organization
I like my leggings. They all have a time and place to be worn!

5. Organize by Use – I admit, I have an insane amount of leggings, however every pair has it’s own unique use. I organize these in piles in my drawers. Each “pile” represents a different category. You can see above the different piles in my workout legging drawer alone! I have only Black cropped leggings, colored cropped leggings, cropped leggings with pockets for running and full length leggings with pockets for running. Pretty efficient if you ask me!

I hope you all had as much fun this month cleaning out your closest as I did! I can’t believe just like that the month is over! Let me know your favorite closet organization tips and tricks too!

xoxo
