Swahili is spoken in many African countries but is known as the official language in Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya. It is estimated that 150 million people speak Swahili which is know as Kiswahili to native speakers. I did not know many Swahili words before I started this month’s challenge, but I am happy to announce that Swahili is one of the easier languages to actually pronounce. Sweden is hard, OK? Yes – Ndio (pronounce dio)
No– Hapana
OK– Sawa
Excuse me, Do you speak English? – Samahani, Unaongea Kiingereza? (Informal)
Where is the rest room? – Msalani ni wapi?
Fun Swahili Phrases
- Dalili ya mvua ni mawingu
- Literal Translation: Clouds are a sign of rain.
- Actual Meaning: You can predict your success but watching for the right signs
- Haraka harka haina baraka

- Actual Meaning: Haste makes waste
