I won’t lie, I was going to start learning Bengali today and decided to google “easiest languages to learn”. It’s already 11pm and I need a language that is going to require minimal effort at this hour. Norwegian and English are both members of the Germanic family which means a lot of our works are very similar-phew! Checkout the basics of the Norwegian language that you are going to want to know!
Norwegian Language Basics
Hi, I’m Krysta. (Informal) – Hei (oh Hallo), jeg heter Krysta
Nice to meet you (informal)– Hyggelig.
Thank you – Takk
Thank you very much – Tusen Takk
You’re Welcome – Velbekomme
It’s my Pleasure (most common) – Bare hyggelig.
Bye – ha det
See you soon – see deg snart
Yes – Ja
No– Nei
Excuse me, Do you speak English? Unnskyld, Snakker du engelsk? Or Kan du snake engelsk?
Overall, I have to say Norwegian sounds somewhat similar to English and somewhat similar to Swedish. I was shocked when I they both say a word that sounds exactly the same for “thank you”! Pretty crazy!
10 Norwegian Phrases you’ll Need in for Daily Conversations
My favorite part of learning 30 different languages is learning all of the idioms. There aren’t funny sayings today, but here are some useful phrases that you may hear in daily conversation:
- I’m not kidding– Jeg tuller ikke
- Is the wifi free? – Er Wi-Fi en gratis?
- Do you have any recommendations? – Har dere noen anbefalinger?
- Where is the train station? – Hvor er togstasjonen?
- Could you take a picture of me please? – Kan du vaere så snill å ta et bilde av meg?
- I brought you something special – Jeg tok med noe spesielt til deg
- Are you free this weekend? – Er du ledig i helgen?
- You look great! – Du ser bra ut!
- What did you say? – Hva sa du?
- You were right! – Du hadde rett!
I should have saved Norwegian for May 17th, their national holiday! Apparently it includes parades and people dressing up in National costumes, sounds like a lot of fun! Be sure to visit Norway in May and test out your new skills then!
xoxo
