Tips for Cleaning out your Closet

As this month comes to a close, it’s time to clean out your closet! I know you’re thinking that you’re too busy and don’t have the time, but I promise, you’ll feel so much better once you do it! Tonight I decided I had to do it because if I didn’t start this process tonight, May would come and I would still be working on this project. Of course I’m still sharing today’s outfits below. Scroll on down to the 9 Tips for Cleaning out your closet is if you aren’t interested in my clothing.

What did you wear today?

I woke up right in the middle of a dream this morning which makes it much tougher to get going in the morning. After our big night out in the city last night, the last thing I wanted to do was drag myself to work. I threw on one of may favorite flannel shirts with yet another pair of Blank NYC Jeans, is anyone surprised? I slipped into my canvas shoes and leather jacket and was officially ready for work! Thankfully I managed to look decent for my in-office zoom calls (if anyone else works in an office and has to take zoom calls, you know how much FUN you pretend to have doing these calls).

Casual Flannel Shirts OLD NAVY
I have always loved Old Navy flannels! This one is one of my favorites!

After work I was SWEATING from my commute home (let me tell you, commuting is sweaty). I knew today was the day I needed to sneak in a Peloton Ride with Tunde after a month off from the bike. Bike Shorts aren’t typically my thing but tonight they made an appearance for the continued sweat session. I have no idea where this Reebok tank came from but I figured I would wear it tonight with my Reebok bike shorts. All that sweat called for an immediate shower.

After the shower, I threw on a shirt that I actually got from SHEIN a couple of years ago with a comfy PINK bralette and Victoria’s Secret leggings. Yes they have been worn before. Also, I just want to swing back to the bralette because I think there a still a population of women out there who also want to take their bra off as soon as they get home, yet also don’t want to go totally free! A bralette is truly comfy and cute, provides minimal support but is still there for you when you need to run outside really quick. Alright now to the moment you’ve all been waiting for…

9 Tips for Cleaning out your Closet

9 Tips for Cleaning Out Your Closet

  1. Make 3 Piles – Keep, Donate, Sell. That’s really all you need here. You are going to keep the stuff you love, donate the clothes that you once LOVED, and sell the clothes that are in decent condition that are brand name. My favorite place to sell clothing online is Poshmark, but Vinted and ThreadUp are great options as well if you recall from Day 22.
  2. Pile #4 – If you can’t part ways with some clothing JUST YET, Put those clothes back in your closet with the hanger backwards or right on top in the front of your drawer. Re-evaluate in 6 months. If you still haven’t worn them even with the seasons turning, it’s time to say good-bye.
  3. Toss those Freebies – You know the ones I’m talking about, the sunglasses from that festival, the t-shirt from that ball game, the tote from brunch. All that stuff just takes up space in your closet if you aren’t using them. I promise you won’t miss them in the next year.
  4. Say Good-bye to those clothes that you still haven’t repaired – If you have a pair of pants that needs to be hemmed and it’s been over 2 months, it’s time to part ways. Same with that hole in your jacket that you still haven’t fixed. But remember, don’t throw them out! Pass on to a retailer (like H&M) who is partnered with I:CO as they take clothing in all conditions!
  5. Clothing that doesn’t fit – This one is tough for me because I  LOVE oversized everything! But truthfully, sometimes that sweater looks more frumpy that cute and just lives in my drawer. Time to donate! I’m not going to wear it, it’s just taking up space at this point. The same goes for that pair of jeans that fit you in college. If it’s been more that 2 years and you don’t ever try to put them on, time to go!
  6. Donate those Trendy Items – lets be real, hanging onto a shirt that was trendy in 2014 suits NO ONE. You really aren’t ever going to wear it again. So goodbye.
  7. Old Favorite Items – Just like those old trendy times, your favorite shirt from 2010 isn’t ever being worn. It’s OK to admit it’s not your favorite anymore. Keep a sentimental item or two, otherwise it’s time to clear out the closet!
  8. Worn-Out Clothing and Shoes – I mean this in the nicest way, those worn out sneakers that you wear on occasion are really just taking up space in your closet/ front hall. It’s OK to let them go forever. Same goes for those white t-shirts have have some serious armpit stains. A white tee isn’t that expensive, sometimes you just have to replace them
  9. Period Underwear – Ladies, hear me out. I know you just down grade your underwear once the lace starts to rip or the elastic gets funky. BUT, you probably don’t need 20 pairs of period underwear. Say goodbye to anything with a hole in it, or a rip in the lace. It’s not cute and it’s likely you’ve got more underwear to rotate through if you have that many pairs of period underwear.

Keep cleaning out your closet my friend. You will feel SO MUCH BETTER once you’ve removed some clutter from your life! If you’re looking for places to donate, I’ve compiled a list for you here!

xoxo
